OK..NOW WHAT? (your questions answered)
What’s the best way to talk to my dog?

Our pooches like it when we are on their levelšŸ‘šŸ½

As we all want to know how to best communicate with our wonderful pooches we wonder how we should approach talking to them.

Here are 8 tips to help you along:

  1. The Hello Sniff: Allow your dog to sniff you as a way of introduction.

  2. A Hands-Off Approach: Dogs prefer a non-invasive greeting, so skip the hugs & let them sniff you & choose the time when you’re both happy to snuggle.

  3. Stay Quiet: Avoid using a high-pitched voice as pups can perceive it as a sign of weakness.

  4. Avoid Eye Contact: Dogs may find direct eye contact intimidating, so it's best to avoid it unless you have already formed a friendly eye to eye bond.

  5. A Scratch Behind Ears Please: Most dogs enjoy a gentle scratch behind the ears rather than a pat on the head.

  6. The Right Choreography: Approach your dog from an angle rather than head-on to appear less threatening.

  7. A Dog’s Eye View: Get down to your dog's level when interacting to show friendliness.

  8. Yawn: Large yawns & gentle blinking can have a calming effect on your pooch

Communicating effectively with your dog is all about understanding their perspective & respecting their cues.

By using a calm & friendly tone, along with appropriate gestures, you can build a strong bond based on trust & companionship.

Happy chatting!🐶

WOOF WELLBEING
🌟 What is dog enrichment & why does it matter so much.🧠

Enrichment is also a dog’s best friendšŸ’—

🌟 Let’s spill the beans on the wonders of dog enrichment & how it can transform your doggo's life into a thrilling adventure! Here's a quick peek at what dog enrichment is all about:

  • Mental Stimulation: Dive into the world of puzzles, interactive toys, & training exercises that challenge your dog's brainpower & keep them sharp as a tack.

  • Physical Exercise: Explore activities like agility courses, fetch games & treasure hunts that get your pooch moving & grooving, promoting a healthier & happier lifestyle.

  • Sensory Exploration: Delight your pup's senses with new scents, textures, & sounds through activities like sniffing games, sensory boxes, & outdoor adventures that ignite their curiosity. Doggos love a walk that includes time for a mind stimulating ā€˜sniffari’.

So, why is dog enrichment so important? Well, think of it like this - when your pup plays & explores, they feel like they're in a magical wonderland where everything is exciting & full of surprises, & that makes them happy.

Also, dog enrichment by stimulating their brains, is a simple, inexpensive & safe way to protect your pooch from age-related mental decline.

Plus, all this fun stuff helps them relax, feel less worried, & helps build a strong bond with you, their best buddy.

Just like how you love having fun, playing games, & learning new things, your pup loves it too! Dog enrichment is a sharing secret ingredient to making your dog's life as awesome as it can be! šŸ¶šŸ’«

🌟DIY enrichment toy - The Tugger Towel.šŸ•

Milo with his DIY enrichment toy. Source: goodhousekeeping.com

How about some easy DIY enrichmentšŸ˜€ Let's make a Tugger Towel enrichment toy using some old towels for some stimulating pup adventure!

Supplies:

  • Old towels

  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut three strips of towel, around 4 inches (10cm) wide & at least 12 inches (30cm) long. Also, cut two smaller strips, about 1 inch (2.5cm) wide & 6 inches (15cm) long.

  2. Gather the three larger towel strips & tie them together at one end using a small strip. Then, braid the three towel strips & secure the other end with the second small strip.

  3. Time to play with your pup! This toy is perfect for a game of tug-of-war. You can even hide small treats inside to keep your pooch entertained foraging & sniffing them out.

Always keep your dog supervised when playing with toys & if any toy starts to come apart throw it away to avoid anything being swallowed.

Stay tuned for more DIY four-legged fun to enrich your pup’s mind!🐶🧠

PAWSE TO REMEMBER

Clean a doggo’s food bowl daily best with soap, water then dry. As dogs like us are living beings with bodies affected by bacteria & other germs that might grow in their bowls & eating areas.
