šŸ˜OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
What Your Dog Really Thinks of Your Face.

Your Dog Loves You… Just Not for Your Face šŸ˜

We lock eyes. They wag their tail. You think, ā€œThey love me.ā€ & they absolutely do, but not because of your award winning cheekbones…

Research confirms what smart dog behaviorists suspected, dogs care less about faces & more about the full ā€˜vibe’. To them, it’s about whole body reads, tail wags, tone of voice, & yes, even the smell of your armpit.

What Do Dogs Really Think?

  1. No face specialist brain region, Dogs’ brains don’t light up for faces like ours do, it's not their main decoding system.

  2. They get a bigger buzz from other dogs, Videos of dogs get a bigger brain response than videos of us (ouch, but fair).

  3. Body cues > facial features, Dogs form mental maps from posture, motion, scent, & sound, your entire presence is the message.

  4. They’ve still evolved to read us, Despite no ā€œface zone,ā€ they’ve learned to spot smiles, sadness, & snack potential.šŸ˜Ž

  5. ā€œCone & rodā€ eye differences affect vision, Dogs see fewer colors but far better motion & shape, especially in low light.

  6. They recognize character, not just expression, They care if you’re kind, not symmetrical.

So, your pup isn't obsessed with your face like you are with theirs, but that’s only because they’re reading the entire you in high definition…& that’s OK because that’s even better!ā¤ļø

Why Dogs Lick Their Lips...The Good & Bad

Is lip licking a cute habit or a K9 clue? Your dog’s tongue might be telling you more than you think. That innocent little lip lick? It could be excitement, nerves… or their way of saying, ā€œSomething’s not right.ā€

Here’s what your dog might be saying:

  1. ā€œI’m a little anxious right nowā€. Lip licking helps dogs self soothe when stressed or overstimulated.

  2. ā€œYay, it’s you!ā€. Rhythmic lip licks can be happy anticipation for playtime, food, or attention.

  3. ā€œI’m trying to be polite hereā€. A submissive signal when meeting another dog or if feeling unsure.

  4. ā€œSomething hurtsā€¦ā€. Persistent licking may point to nausea, dental pain, or even dehydration.

  5. ā€œI’m not feeling quite rightā€. In rare cases, repeated lip licking is linked to seizures or serious illness.

If lip licking is sudden, intense, or paired with signs like drooling, lethargy, or behavioral shifts, a vet visit is a smart move. But in many cases it’s just your pup communicating the dog way. As always it’s always good to keep watching, stay curious & trust your gut…& theirs.šŸ•

🧠Here’s Some Surprising Truths About Dog Brains.

Forget everything you thought you knew about brain size & canine smarts. A study flipped the script when it showed that some of the smartest, most capable working dogs have the smallest brains relative to their body size. Yup, Huskies may not be cranial giants, but they’re still problem-solving pros.

What Surprising Dog Brain Facts Were Revealed?

  1. Smaller brain ≠ less intelligent. Working dogs like Huskies & Rottweilers were actually more trainable despite smaller brain-to-body ratios.

  2. Toy breeds had bigger relative brains. Chihuahuas & Pomeranians topped the charts but also showed more attention-seeking & anxiety.

  3. Brains shaped by purpose, not size. For example, working breeds evolved for cooperation & task focus.

  4. Selective breeding changed brain wiring. Human guided dog evolution influenced not just how dogs look, but how their brains are built.

  5. Bigger doesn’t mean better, it means different. Brains were organized around their role, whether it’s snuggling on laps or finding avalanche survivors.

So next time your dog does something clever (or not-so-clever), it's not about brain size, it's about what they were built for…& no matter what, they’re still brilliant at being a dog & even better & being your dog. šŸ¶šŸ’”

Double Check Labeling on Household Products. Read labels on household products to ensure they are safe for pets before using around dogs. This includes not only poisons but considering skin sensitivities through surface contact &, fumes & odors that can harm dogs due to their highly sensitive sense of smell.

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer.  FACT

Dogs can detect migraines by sensing subtle changes in their dog parent’s body chemistry (particularly in the ā€œprodromeā€ phase that can begin 1 to 2 hours before symptoms appear), & with shifts in scent, behavior or even hormone levels they can often detect migraines up to 48 hours before symptoms appear.
