😏OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
🐶This is How Your Dog Feels When You Use Baby Talk.

Found yourself speaking to your dog in a playful, kinda-cute, sing-song voice? Well join the club of just about every dog parent out there!
You may be curious about how your pup really thinks & feels about it?
The good news is that dogs not only enjoy this form of communication, but it also has some fantastic benefits for your relationship with them.
Do Dogs Enjoy Baby Talk?
Research shows that dogs respond positively to “dog-directed speech,” which is essentially baby talk tailored for our pups. A 2018 study revealed that dogs prefer this tone, especially when it’s paired with dog related activities like treats or playtime.
Their brains actually light up in response to the high-pitched, affectionate sounds we make. This cheerful tone is often interpreted as an invitation to engage & play.
Are There Benefits or Risks to Using Baby Talk?
Using baby talk can have several benefits for your pup. First, it helps to build a stronger bond between you & your dog. When you speak in a warm, enthusiastic tone, it signals to your dog that you’re happy & supportive of their actions.
This is especially helpful when reinforcing good behavior. Your dog feels encouraged & appreciated. Plus, studies show that dogs are more likely to engage & interact with you when you use this playful style of communication.
However, be ready to use caution in specific situations. If your dog is doing something unsafe, like chewing on a possibly dangerous object, a firm, lower pitched voice is essential to get their attention.
Additionally, during training, clarity is vital. Use straightforward commands & follow up with your preferred baby talk as positive reinforcement to keep things fun & engaging.
Keep those conversations going, it’s good for both of you!💗

Why Do Dogs Love Squeaky Toys?

If your dog has a squeaky toy that they can’t seem to put down, there’s a good reason for that. I’ve watched my own pup go wild for them (but the squeaker doesn’t last long😏), & it got me curious about what makes these toys so special.
A Squeak to Their Instincts
Dogs have an amazing sense of hearing. Those high pitched squeaks mimic the sounds of injured prey, tapping into their natural hunting instincts, as kind of brutal as that is.
When your dog hears that familiar squeak, it triggers a playful reaction, it's as if their inner hunter comes out to play. This instinctual connection is a big part of why squeaky toys are so exciting for them.
Interestingly, some dogs when attached to a toy that they are gentle with, have been known to back off if it squeaks as they may think they are harming it.
A Sound That Brings Joy
Beyond instinct, high-pitched sounds are often more cheerful & inviting for dogs. They signal fun & encourage interaction. It’s a simple way to lift their spirits & get them engaged.
..But Safety First
While squeaky toys are generally safe, always keep an eye on how your dog plays. If they start tearing apart the toy, step in before any small pieces become a choking hazard, like the squeaker itself.
If you have a dog who isn’t a fan of squeaky noises, don’t worry. The myriad of alternatives, like puzzle toys or plush toys (Something tougher for heavy chewers) can provide enrichment, comfort & entertainment just as much, tuned to their personality.
Every dog has its own likes & dislikes, so continue to try out a variety of safe toys to find what makes your pup happiest. Toy tastes can also change with age. Playtime should be enjoyable for them & worry free for you.💗
🦨Why Can Dogs Smell Bad?..& How to Fix It.

I liked being stinky but that feels sooo goood…🥰
If your dog has been giving off some not so pleasant odors…hmmm, OK, I’ll be blunt. A stinky dog is no fun!…& a clean smelling dog is so nice (like toebeans that smell like cornchips 😄). I’ve certainly had my share of moments where my pup’s smell made me think, “What on earth happened?” So let’s sniff into why our dogs can sometimes smell less than fresh & how we can help them out…& ourselves!
So, What Causes Dog-Stinks?
There are a few reasons your dog might be smelling a bit funky.
Bad Breath: One of the most common culprits is tartar buildup. That nasty breath can be a sign of gum disease, which isn’t just unpleasant; it needs attention.
Gas: If your dog’s flatulence could clear a room, it might be time to look at their diet. Sometimes, it’s just the food they ate, but if the smell persists, a vet visit could be in order.
Skin Issues: Many dogs suffer from skin problems that can cause odors. If your pup has itchy skin or red spots, it’s worth checking out with your vet.
Ear Infections: Dogs with floppy ears can be prone to infections that smell awful. If you notice a bad odor coming from their ears, get them checked out.
Anal Glands: When these glands become impacted or infected, they can produce a pungent smell. A vet can help if you suspect this is the issue. (You can even learn to drain them yourselves🤔)
Lack of Grooming: Sometimes the simplest solution is just that your dog needs a bath. Regular grooming helps keep their coat clean & fresh.
Seborrhea: This skin condition leads to flaking & can be quite smelly, especially in breeds with folds. If you see signs, it’s best to consult a vet.
Serious Health Issues: In older dogs, conditions like kidney disease or diabetes can cause bad breath or unusual odors. If other causes have been ruled out, it might be time for a veterinary checkup.
Keeping Your Dog Smellin’ Sweet.
Now that we know what might be causing those smells, let’s sniff into how to keep your pup smelling better:
Brush Daily: Regular brushing removes dirt & dead skin. It’s a great way to keep their coat healthy & can help prevent skin issues.
Wash Their Bed: Just like we wash our sheets, your dog’s bed deserves a good cleaning too. Bacteria can build up & cause odor, so toss it in the wash regularly.
If the smell of a well slept in bed helps calm your pooch, then you can get a thin blanket that you can lie on the bed that will let you rotate which one you clean to keep that ‘doggy smell’ present.
Wipe Their Paws: After walks, give those cute toebeans (paws) a quick wipe to remove any dirt or smells they might have picked up outside.
Healthy Diet: Keep an eye on what your dog eats. A nutritious diet can reduce gas & improve overall health.
Brush Their Teeth: Regular dental care is key to preventing bad breath & gum disease.
Invest in Quality Shampoo: Choose a good shampoo that nourishes their skin & leaves them smelling fresh without harsh fragrances.
Clean Their Ears: After baths, take a moment to wipe out their ears gently. If you notice persistent dirtiness, a vet cleaning may be necessary.
What About Extra Stinky Situations?
Sometimes our pups roll in something particularly foul. A full bath is usually the best solution, but if it’s just a small area, spot cleaning might do the trick. Dry shampoo can help remove odors in a pinch. For stinky animal encounters, specialized shampoos or a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, & dish soap can work wonders.
By taking these steps & giving your dog some extra love & care, you can help keep them smelling fresh. Just be aware that persistent bad odors could signal health issues. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet if you’re concerned.
Here’s to more cuddly evenings without stink!💗
🤔PAWSE TO REMEMBER
Tame the Treats. Treats should not make up more than about 10% of your dogs daily calorie needs. Each dog is different. Individual considerations include weight, activity level & health conditions that may involve a restricted diet. For homemade treats note the nutritional information in the recipe & adjust to portion size. For bought treats read the label & adjust as necessary. Note that high value treats like those used in training are often higher in calories so should be given in smaller numbers or broken up into smaller pieces.
