😏OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
Study Warns of 17 Dog Pain Signs Getting Missed.

If your dog is limping, you know they are hurting. But what if pain looks like extra clinginess, nighttime wandering, or simply yawning? A major study from Utrecht University in the Netherlands tested how well dog parents spot 17 distinct behavioral signs of pain. The results might surprise you. Many of us miss the subtle ones.
Why It matters
Dogs are masters at masking discomfort. Some breeds better than others, (My Staffy gives nothing away).
Behavior is the smoke, but what is happening inside is the fire. We often label subtle shifts as fear, short term stress, or just a mood change. When pain stays hidden, our dogs carry quiet discomfort that wears down their emotional as well as physical wellbeing.
So, what can you do?
Take a screen shot of this section if you need to. Check it from time to time so you naturally keep an eye out for all 17 behavioral signs evaluated by the researchers. Here they are grouped by area:
Personality & Mood: Changed personality, fluctuating mood, or reduced willingness to play.
Daily Routines: Shadowing you closely (velcro behavior), nighttime restlessness, or changed sleeping posture (like no longer curling up).
Physical Signals: Hesitant paw lifting, changed expression/look, coat changes, or altered body posture.
Grooming & Skin: Increased grooming or increased scratching.
Overlooked Stress Cues: Increased blinking, surface licking, air sniffing, nose licking, yawning, or freezing & turning away.
Tools you can use
If you get concerned your pup may be showing mild symptoms, start keeping a simple 7-day mood & routine log on your phone or on paper to track subtle shifts. If signs are consistent, discuss or forward the log to your veterinarian, don’t wait. Of course for severe symptoms it’s straight to the vet, you know that already.
Spotting these, what may be quiet whispers, allows you to step in long before your dog ever has to cry out.

Why You Should Smile at Your Dog…Brain Scans Prove It!

Jun-Jun was happy to participate…I think treats may have been involved.
Ever feel like your dog is reading your mood the second you walk into the room?
Over the years we’ve closely monitored & kept you up to date with the growing understanding of how our dogs silently communicate and react through our emotional connection (emotional contagion). & science keeps learning more…
A study from the University of Vienna published in iScience put pet dogs in fMRI brain scanners to see how they process human faces. The scans revealed something heart warming. When a dog sees a genuine smile, it lights up the reward center in their brain in a completely unique way.
Thousands of years of living together have actually shaped your dog’s brain to tune into your facial cues. A warm smile instantly triggers a positive emotional state inside them.
You can easily use this for strengthening your bond:
Make intentional eye contact: Give your dog a relaxed smile when they check in with you on walks.
Soft physical cues: Pair your smile with relaxed body language instead of leaning over them.
Reset tough moments: If you are feeling stressed, take a deep breath & soften your face before stepping toward your pup.
It turns out a genuine smile is one of the simplest ways to tell your dog they are safe, loved, & right where they belong.
🥗 Is Proactive vs. Reactive the Big Dog Bowl Shift?

You may read this & think, OK, I’m there already, or maybe it will spark some new ideas. It’s all good either way.
For years, most of us were taught to treat dog food like a utility bill. You fill the bowl, keep them fed, & only look for specialized joint, gut or other solutions when your dog starts having issues or due to their age. But a study in Animals highlights, (yup, some great studies this issue), show a huge shift in modern pet care, Dog parents are moving away from reactive fixes & leaning into proactive daily nutrition.
Waiting until a dog shows stiff hips or a sensitive stomach means playing catch-up. Proactive nutrition uses everyday functional ingredients to build up joint cushioning, gut resilience, & brain power long before any warning signs appear.
You do not need an expensive overhaul to start building proactive habits into your routine:
Focus on synergistic nutrients: Look for foods or whole-food toppers that combine active ingredients, like omega-3 fatty acids paired with natural antioxidants, so they boost each other inside the body.
Protect the gut micro-biome early: Adding small amounts of dog-safe fiber or prebiotics keeps the gut lining healthy, which directly supports their immune system & mood.
Rotate fresh toppers: Simple additions like plain steamed pumpkin, fresh berries, or a splash of bone broth turn a standard meal into a functional health boost.
Taking tiny, proactive steps today gives your dog the best gift possible. A longer, more comfortable life full of tail wags & zero regrets.

David vs Goliath, or 3.5lb Poodle vs 150lb Great Dane?
Our pooches silently, & not so silently😄, remind us of important things every day.
This little power poodle is no exception. Reminding us to ignore what naysayers tell us can or cannot be done. In the name of good, (& winning stuffed toy battles), where there’s a will there’s a way!
Watch & Enjoy.💗

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer. FLUFF
Senior dogs can still learn new behaviors, though they may need a bit more patience. Mental exercise is essential for aging dogs because it keeps their brains active & can delay cognitive decline. Also learning new tricks builds confidence & strengthens the dog to dog parent connection.
