šŸ˜OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
Seeing these? Then Your Dog’s Routine Needs Checking.

Some dogs tell you when their routine isn’t working anymore. Others whisper it. A slower walk. A new kind of clinginess. Dogs don’t ā€œact outā€ when life stops fitting them…they adjust, & they hope you’ll notice.

A routine is the steady rhythm of your pup’s day & it’s the moments they can count on. Meals. Sleep. Walks. Play. Connection. These are the ā€œanchorsā€ that help a dog feel safe & they sometimes need tuning.

Everything else that goes with it, the timing, the walking route, the type of enrichment they have, is flexible and part of the routine picture.

Dogs also rely on emotional anchors in their day that are the morning hello, the predictable cuddle and other bonding moments. These matter just as much as food & exercise.

And then there’s the routine adjustments that come with life stage…Puppies need structure. Teens need outlets. Adults need balance. Seniors need comfort & gentle pacing.

Here are 10 signs your dog’s routine needs checking:

  1. Slowing down on walks

  2. Hesitating with stairs or the car

  3. Weight gain or loss

  4. Restless nights

  5. Irritability or shorter fuse

  6. Chewing or digging from boredom

  7. Barking or whining more

  8. Eating or drinking differently

  9. Losing interest in play

  10. New anxieties

If you’re seeing these, try adjusting the routine:

  • Change one thing at a time

  • Strengthen the anchors (meals, sleep, play, connection)

  • Match exercise to your dog’s current stamina and physical state

  • Add variety within the routine like enrichment activities or change walking routes

  • Watch how they respond over the next 48 hours

  • Use the Think / Consider check‑in:

    • Think: What changed in their mood or energy

    • Consider: Which anchor or detail needs adjusting

Loop in your vet if you notice ongoing mobility issues, appetite changes, weight shifts, night restlessness, or sudden new fears.

Dog’s love routine. If yours needs changing, small adjustments can make your dog’s whole world feel right again.

Most sources have stopped looking. The alarm is easier to sell.

The Daily Upside was created by Wall Street insiders for readers who crave real insight over recycled anxiety. Five minutes of global business and finance, before the noise sets the agenda — just the facts, context, and analysis your decisions need.

🧠🌿WOOF WELLBEING
Decoding "Middening" Your Dog's Desire to Aerial Poop.

Some dogs poop on the ground like regular good-dog-citizens.
And then there’s the dog carefully positioning to crown some unsuspecting object like they’re unveiling a sculpture at a modern art museum…with surprising accuracy.

That dramatic little summit? It’s called middening.

Dogs pick high or obvious raised spots because scent carries farther from those places. It’s their version of posting a message on the local bulletin board. Other pups come by later, sniff the update, maybe leave a reply. It’s very social. Very public. Very… dog.

And for good measure, it often means your dog feels sure of themselves. Confident dogs love a good ā€œI was hereā€ moment. Teen dogs do it even more, because…of course they do. Some breeds, like hounds, terriers, & bold working types, like to treat every raised surface like a VIP bathroom.

You might also see more middening when the yard smells different…maybe a neighbor’s dog visited, or a possum wandered through at 3 a.m. Dogs notice everything as we all know.

On rare occasions if a there has been an unsettling change from normal activity it can relate to stress or anxiety.

In general, Middening only becomes an issue when your dog chooses places that make you cringe like the garden bed you just planted or that wobbly thing that absolutely cannot hold their weight.

If you need to guide the behavior you can:

  • Interrupt gently when they start scouting a high spot

  • Redirect them to a flat, safe potty area

  • Reward them the moment they poop on level ground

  • Clean targeted areas with a strong bio‑enzymatic cleaner

  • Block or modify the raised spots they keep returning to

If it’s safe & not causing trouble, for the most part middening is completely normal.
It’s one of those interestingly odd dog behaviours that reminds you that
your dog has a whole secret social life happening right under your nose…even though this bit doesn’t smell so goodšŸ¤”.

šŸ•šŸ©Is it Hair or Fur...Let’s Clean Up the Debate

Dog parents may sayā€¦ā€œMy dog sheds hair everywhere,ā€ but the moment they’re cuddling on the couch, it magically becomes ā€œoh that beautiful soft fur.ā€ā€¦So which is it?

The fact is, dogs can have hair or fur. It depends on the coat they were born with, & the two types behave very differently in real life.

Every dog’s coat is made of keratin. The real difference is how it grows & sheds.

Fur usually means a double coat: a warm undercoat & longer guard hairs. It grows fast, stops fast, & falls out in big seasonal waves. That’s why brushing a Husky in spring feels like you’re releasing a snowstorm.

Hair usually means a single coat that grows for months or years. It sheds very little, but loose hair gets trapped in curls or waves & can turn into mats if it’s not brushed out. Think Poodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus, & most doodles.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. Allergies come from dander, saliva, & urine proteins, not the hair itself. Hair coated dogs often spread fewer allergens around the house, but they may need more grooming. Fur coated dogs shed more, especially in spring & autumn.

Debate aside, the goal isn’t really to know the answer to the ā€œhair vs furā€ argument. What’s useful is to know which coat your dog has, so you can care for it in a way that keeps them comfortable & healthy…& you sane.ā¤ļø

šŸ¤”PAWSE TO REMEMBER

Ear Checking. Check your dog’s ears once a week & always after walks in wild & planted areas. A quick look for pink skin, no smell, & no debris or bugs helps you catch infections, allergies, sneaky grass seeds and insects before they cause trouble. It’s quick & can save your dog a lot of discomfort…and you vet bills.

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer.  FACT

Dogs can sense a storm coming long before we do. Their super senses pick up the early warning signs like drops in air pressure, static electricity building in their fur, distant low‑frequency thunder, & even the sharp ozone smell that storms create. To them, the storm ā€œarrivesā€ long before the sky goes dark.
