A wonderful story of love and determination. When Ali, one of Paul Diamond's "best workers" was badly injured in a traumatic farm accident, the idea of giving up on the working dog was too hard to bear.

Determined searching to improve Ali’s quality of life led to the discovery of a custom wheel chair builder & with a few directions she was “flying around the farm again”.

“These dogs don’t get paid. They get fed and they become part of the family and we are in debt to them.” said Paul.

Can a pooch live 31 years? As vet professor Andew Knight says “you can never be 100% certain” but it is plausible that among the around 470 million dogs in the world there will be “a few with very good genes”.

But, there are always ways to help your doggo lead their best and longest healthy life.

Here’s a few: Plenty of opportunity to exercise and explore (safely), regular mental stimulation, a healthy balanced diet that is nutritionally sound & maintaining a healthy weight.

Love, attention, socialisation & behaviour training in puppyhood are also important, as are regular vet checkups for vaccinations, parasite control & teeth care.

A recent study even suggests that nutritionally sound vegan diets could result in greater longevity of up to 1.5 years.

Dogs are sensitive to the Earth’s magnetic field and prefer to poop along the north-south axis. They also avoid pooping along the east-west axis altogether.
