šŸ˜OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
How Your Dog Can Learn A LOT More Words.

Teaching your dog new words isn’t just a clever trick, it’s enrichment they love, being a boost for their cognitive (brain) health, & a way to strengthen your bond.

If you want to know more on how to protect your dog’s mental wellbeing, you can discover 115+ ways to give your dog vital enrichment for them to have the best life HERE & there’s more information below this article.

Teaching your pup more words is a good start. Studies show the average well-trained dog can learn around 165 words, about the same as a two year old toddler. Some dogs, like the famous Border Collie Chaser, have learned over 1,000. That includes reacting to sounds & linking words to objects, actions, & even categories. So here are the steps:

  • If you haven’t already, start with simple favorites: Words like ā€œtreat,ā€ ā€œwalk,ā€ or ā€œoutsideā€ grab attention & build quick associations.

  • Use routines: Say ā€œbedā€ at bedtime or ā€œdinnerā€ at meal time to anchor meaning in daily life.

  • Teach nouns with toys: Name one toy at a time ā€œball,ā€ ā€œkongā€, & reinforce during play.

  • Introduce concepts: Pair words with situations, like ā€œgo outā€ for going outside or ā€œdo weesā€ for bathroom breaks. So ā€œgo out do weesā€ for outside bathroom break for example.

  • Add opposing pairs: Words like ā€œplayā€ & ā€œcuddleā€ help dogs differentiate contexts.

  • Speak clearly & slowly: Dogs process sound at a slower rate, so clarity matters. (for dogs, about 2 syllables a second vs our 4 syllables a second)

  • Reinforce with rewards: Use the command–motivation–mark–reward sequence, which means you give the word, motivate the action, mark success with a cue like ā€œyes,ā€ & then reward immediately.

  • Repeat in different contexts: Generalization ensures the word applies beyond one situation.

  • Add words gradually: One or two at a time prevents confusion.

  • Keep it fun: Enthusiasm & play make learning stick.

When your dog masters a new word, it’s more than a proud ā€œI knew you were awesomeā€ moment (to which you may get back a side-eye look of ā€œwell, of course I amā€šŸ˜).

It’s something they enjoy & can be a safeguard in tricky situations where clear communication matters. Every word learned is another stitch in the fabric of trust that makes life with your pup so endlessly rewarding.

šŸ’©How to Health-Watch Your Dog’s Poop.

The world of being an adoring dog parent also means dealing with picking up poop with the constant thought of ā€œDoes that look OK?ā€.

That’s a good thing because your dog’s poo is a daily health report, & learning to read it can help you catch problems early, protect their safety, & even give you a way to laugh at the quirks of what counts as ā€œnormal.ā€ (let’s just call that our stink coping mechanism shall we?šŸ¤”)

  • Color: Medium to dark brown signals proper digestion, while unusual shades can mean trouble.

  • Consistency: Firm but not hard, easy to scoop, & never watery or crumbly.

  • Shape: Log‑like is the gold standard, showing balanced digestion.

  • Odor: Mild is fine; foul or overpowering can point to digestive issues.

  • Blood or mucus: Signs of irritation or infection that need vet attention.

  • Foreign objects: Plastic, string, or fabric hint at risky chewing habits.

  • Frequency changes: Sudden shifts in how often they go can flag health concerns.

  • Other symptoms: Pairing stool changes with lethargy, vomiting, or pain is a red alert.

  • Make it a habit: Regular checks help you know what’s normal for your dog.

  • Take notes: A simple diary tracks patterns, especially after diet changes.

Watching poop may not be glamorous, but it’s good for the protection of your dog & a reminder that love sometimes means paying attention to the messy stuff.

šŸ™šŸ½What Are the 10 Ways Your Dog Says Thank You?

Your dog doesn’t send thank-you notes, at least not like we do.

They have 10 quirky, heart-melting ways of showing gratitude...Some you might miss. These gestures are their version of ā€œthanks for being my mum/dad/person.ā€:

  1. Tail wagging: Not any tail wag. Broad, sweeping wags with relaxed posture signal joy & appreciation.

  2. Following you: Sticking close from room to room is loyalty wrapped in gratitude.

  3. Zoomies: Those wild bursts of energy are pure celebration of your care.

  4. Gentle eye contact: A soft gaze releases oxytocin, strengthening your bond.

  5. Play bowing: Dropped front legs & wagging tail invite fun as a thank-you.

  6. Snuggling: Curling up beside you is comfort & companionship expressed.

  7. Sighing deeply: A relaxed exhale means safety & contentment.

  8. Licking: A wet kiss after a meal is a puppyhood carryover of thanks.

  9. Leaning against you: Pressing close shows trust & gratitude.

  10. Bringing toys: Offering their prized possession is sharing love in tangible form.

Every body language sign or physical gesture is your dog’s way of saying they notice the care you give and they want to connect more with you. Gratitude in dog language is lived out in their special daily quirks that remind you just how much you matter to them.

Myth: Pet insurance claims are too slow

Unlike in the past, most pet insurance claims are now super easy to process. Now, you can submit a claim right from an app and get the money deposited directly into your account within days. Many insurers even offer options for direct payment to the vet, reducing the out-of-pocket burden. Check out Money’s Best Pet Insurance list to find options with fast and painless claims processing.

šŸ¤”PAWSE TO REMEMBER

Keep an Eye on Toy Size. To prevent choking or ingestion hazards. A toy should be big enough for your dog to carry and chew safely, but not small that it could be swallowed. One test is that any toy small enough to fit behind your dog’s molars is a potential danger. You should also consider your dog’s level of chewing aggression. If in doubt, keep it out.

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer.  FLUFF

Dogs don’t have a supernatural sixth sense, as they are often thought to have, but they do possess heightened senses that can seem like one. They have powerful detection abilities including changes in air pressure, magnetic fields & human body chemistry. These abilities are due to their superior sense of smell, hearing & how they are able to read physical & emotional cues.
