😏OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
How your behavior at the Vet affects your dog..& what to do.

Taking your dog to the vet can feel a bit daunting, right? Just when you think you've got everything under control, it’s time for a checkup, & suddenly you’re a bundle of nerves (or is that just me?🙄).

How you feel can affect your pup.

Why do your emotions matter & what you can do before you visit?

  • Emotional Connection: Dogs are like little emotion detectors. If you’re feeling stressed beforehand, they’ll likely pick up on that & may feel anxious too.

  • Body Language: Your posture tells a story. If you’re tense or fidgety, your dog might think something’s wrong & get uneasy.

  • Voice Tone: How you talk can change the mood. A shaky voice might make them think there’s a reason to worry.

  • Routine Changes: If you act differently before a vet visit, your dog might sense something’s off & start to get nervous.

How can you help your dog feel more at ease?

  1. Stay Calm: Your relaxed energy can help ease their nerves.

  2. Positive Associations: Bring along their favorite treats or a beloved toy. This way, the vet visit can turn into a fun adventure.

  3. Practice Visits: Swing by the vet for a quick hello, when no visit is needed. It’s a great way for them to get used to the place.

  4. Gentle Handling: How you hold & touch your dog matters. A gentle touch can make them feel secure.

  5. Talk Softly: Use that soothing voice of yours. A calm tone can work wonders.

  6. Choose the Right Time: If your pup tends to be anxious, try booking visits during quieter hours.

Your feelings really do play a big part, before the checkup starts rather than during, so keep that calm, your pup will thank you.💓

Pet insurance companies can offer up to 90% reimbursement for covered claims, providing peace of mind and protection against expensive medical bills.

Don’t let unexpected vet bills stress you out. Protect your pet and your finances with top-rated pet insurance.

🧠🌿WOOF WELLBEING
Why is your dog barking so much? & how to stop it.

Is your dog barking up a storm lately? It can be annoying. Sometimes it feels like they have a lot to say without a reason, & honestly, it can leave us scratching our heads.

So why is your dog barking so much?

  • Communication: Dogs bark to express themselves. Whether they’re excited, scared, or just want your attention, barking is their way of talking to you.

  • Boredom: If your dog isn’t getting enough mental or physical stimulation, they might bark out of sheer boredom. Who wouldn’t?

  • Alerting: Some dogs are natural watchdogs. They bark to alert you of any potential threats, which can be helpful but also a bit much sometimes.

  • Separation Anxiety: If your dog barks when left alone, it could be due to anxiety. They may feel stressed when you’re not around.

How can you reduce that noise?

  1. Identify Triggers: Pay attention to what gets your dog barking. Knowing the cause will help you address the behavior better.

  2. Increase Exercise: A tired dog is a quieter dog (not overtired). Make sure your pup is getting enough activity through walks or playtime.

  3. Mental Stimulation: Engage their brain with puzzle toys or training sessions. This can help reduce boredom & curb excessive barking.

  4. Training Commands: Teaching your dog commands like “quiet” or “enough” can redirect their barking. Positive reinforcement works wonders.

  5. Desensitize: Gradually expose your dog to whatever triggers their barking in a controlled way. This can help them learn to stay calm.

  6. Comfort Items: If separation anxiety is the issue, provide a favorite toy or blanket when you leave. It can make them feel more secure.

..& make sure to avoid these:

  • Yelling: Raising your voice might seem like a good way to get their attention, but it can actually make the barking worse. It’s like you’re joining in.

  • Punishment: Scolding your dog for barking can create fear & confusion. & it might lead to more barking or anxiety.

  • Ignoring the Issue: Just hoping the barking will stop on its own isn’t a great idea. Focusing on the cause is key to finding a solution.

With persistence you can help manage your dog's barking & create a more peaceful home environment with the right balance⚖

🐾What’s so special about dog paws?..& how to care for them.

Those adorable little feet, errr paws, are brilliant! They’re designed for all sorts of adventures, & taking care of them is ultra-important.

So, what makes those adorable toe beans so special?

  • Tough Design: Dog paw pads are built tough to handle various terrain, think rocky trails or sandy beaches. They have multiple layers that provide traction & protection.

  • Shock Absorption: The multi-layer structure of the pads helps absorb shock, making walks & runs easier on their joints. It’s like built-in gel cushioning!

  • Temperature Regulation: Those pads help insulate against temperatures, keeping their feet comfy whether it's hot or cold ground.

  • Sweat Glands: Dogs sweat most through their paw pads. This can help with scent marking.

How do we care for them?

  1. Regular Inspections: Check your dog’s paws often for cuts, scrapes, or swelling. Catching issues early can save a lot of trouble!

  2. Nail Trimming: Keep those nails trimmed! Overgrown nails can make walking uncomfortable & lead to injuries.

  3. Temperature Protection: Be mindful of hot surfaces in summer & icy sidewalks in winter. Protect those precious paws!

  4. Clean After Walks: Give their paws a rinse after walks to remove dirt, salt, or any chemicals that could irritate them.

  5. Moisturize When Needed: If you notice dry or cracked pads, consider using a paw balm to keep them soft & healthy.

  6. Watch for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye out for unusual odors or if your dog is licking their paws a lot—these could be signs of trouble.

..& what to not do:

  • Ignore Injuries: Don’t overlook cuts or scrapes. If you see something concerning, it’s best to consult your vet.

  • Skip Regular Checks: Neglecting regular inspections might lead to unnoticed issues that could worsen over time.

  • Use Human Products: Avoid using human lotions or creams on their paws, as they can be harmful. Stick to products specifically designed for dogs.

Those little feet are what help your our pups explore the world so let's make sure they’re always ready for every adventure.

🤔PAWSE TO REMEMBER

Street Hazards. Be alert for common urban dangers like traffic & vehicles, toxic substances that could be ingested, too hot or cold pavements, chemicals, work site hazards, discarded sharp objects & overcrowding that causes dog stress. “Eyes on the ground & eyes all around”
