šŸ˜OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
How To Decode Your Dog’s Stretching Signals.

A question that can come to mind when my dog stretches at me. Is it just a random move or a secret message? Fact is, that stretch is our pup’s way of saying a lot without words.

Dogs use different stretches to share how they’re feeling & they have subtle differences.

Whether they want to play, are just waking up, or are genuinely thrilled to see you again. There are three main stretches you’ll likely notice & here’s what each one means:

  • Play Bow: When your dog stretches with their elbows bent & front legs reaching forward, it’s a classic ā€œLet’s play!ā€ signal. This isn’t just a cute trick, wolves & even lions use this move to invite others to join in the fun, so it’s deeply rooted in canine nature.

  • Morning Stretch: After waking from a nap or sleep, your dog might do a full body stretch, sometimes with a yawn or a little shake, to loosen up & get ready for the day ahead, kind of like their own waking up routine.

  • Greeting Stretch: When you come home, you might see your dog stretch out with front paws extended & body elongated. It’s their joyful way of showing they missed you & are glad you’re back, kind of like a warm hug without the arms.

Most of the time, these stretches are happy, healthy signs your dog is comfortable & excited. But if you notice your dog stretching oddly or frequently, especially if it comes with whimpering, stiffness, or other signs of discomfort, it’s worth checking in with your vet to be safe. Otherwise, take these stretches as little love notes from your pup, moments to celebrate & maybe reward with some extra pets or playtime.ā¤ļø

What Do Bones Really Do To Your Dog’s Health?

I know it’s tempting to give your dog a bone as a tasty treat or a way to keep them busy. But what do bones really do for your dog’s health?

While chewing on bones can offer benefits like dental care & mental stimulation, there are important things to keep in mind to make sure it stays safe & healthy for your pup. Understanding the right types of bones & how to offer them can help you avoid risks while enjoying the good stuff.

  • Dental Benefits: Chewing on bones can help scrape away plaque & tartar, supporting healthier teeth & fresher breath, kind of like a natural toothbrush for your dog.

  • Mental Enrichment: Gnawing on a bone provides your dog with valuable mental exercise, helping to reduce boredom & keep their mind sharp, especially when they’re home alone or resting.

  • Safety Considerations: Not all bones are safe, cooked bones, small or brittle ones can splinter & cause choking or internal injury. If a bone is too hard it can damage teeth, so choosing the right size & type is crucial to protect your dog’s health.

There are differing opinions in the dog expert community on the pros & cons of feeding your dog fresh uncooked non-splintering, soft meaty bones (others types are not safe). One side supports it (with safety considerations) on the basis it is natural & instinctive. The other side believes it is too dangerous & at the most support bones ground down into powder.

You must must make your own decision on what you feel is best for your pup. Some dogs are simply not good with bones. My view (& I am a fan of Dr Ian Billinghurst’s Give Your Dog a Bone) is that bones can be a wonderful addition to your dog’s routine when given thoughtfully & under supervision.

Always watch your pup while they chew, stick to raw or specially designed bones, & consult your vet if you’re unsure what’s best.

🦨11 Ways To Get Rid Of Furniture Dog Odors.

It can be annoying when your beloved pooch leaves your furniture smelling less than fresh, even though there is something homely about a bit of dog smell, just not the stinky kindšŸ˜.

Luckily, there are plenty of tried & true ways to tackle those stubborn pet odors so your home can stay inviting & cozy. The key is regular care & using a mix of natural & specially designed cleaning methods that work best for your furniture & your pup’s lifestyle.

Here are 11 effective ways to get rid of dog odors from your furniture:

  1. Dog-Specific Odor Eliminators: Enzyme-based sprays neutralize odors at the molecular level rather than masking them, making them highly effective & pet-safe.

  2. Baking Soda: Sprinkle it on your upholstery overnight, then vacuum to naturally absorb & reduce lingering smells without harsh chemicals.

  3. Fabric Freshener Sprays: Quick fix for guests arriving, these sprays refresh your couch & replace odors with a pleasant scent, though some dogs may avoid the smell. Make sure they are safe to spray around dogs.

  4. Wash Throw Pillows & Blankets: Regularly laundering these removable items removes hidden odor sources often missed in couch cleaning.

  5. Upholstery Cleaners: Compact, modern machines help deeply clean fabric & lift out stubborn pet stains & odors with ease.

  6. Vacuum Thoroughly: Daily or frequent vacuuming with a strong suction & upholstery attachment removes hair, dander, & dirt that trap smells.

  7. Steam Cleaning: High temperature steam kills odor causing bacteria naturally without harmful chemicals.

  8. Air Cushions in Sunlight: UV rays in sunlight kill bacteria on cushions, refreshing them quickly & naturally.

  9. Professional Cleaning: Industrial grade equipment & chemicals provide a deep, thorough odor removal you can’t always achieve at home.

  10. Remove & Wash Couch / Lounge / Quilt Covers: Taking off removable covers for regular washing prevents odors from embedding in the fabric, especially when using vinegar in the wash.

  11. Vinegar Mist Spray: A diluted vinegar solution neutralizes smells but should be tested first for staining, it’s a natural, inexpensive odor fighter.

Keeping dog odors off your furniture is an ongoing effort, but these useful tips make it manageable, & your home more enjoyable for everyone.

Give some of these tips a try regularly, & enjoy the fresh, welcoming space you create for both you & your pup.

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer.  FLUFF

Fluff, that is, the human part…Dogs do have this ability but humans don’t. Dogs do have specialized taste receptors on the tips of their tongues that allow them to detect & enjoy the taste of water & the they are even more sensitive when a dog is thirsty or has eaten salty or sugary foods.
