After 11 years! How Vanessa the shelter dog found her forever home.

Vanessa, a senior pitbull was dropped off at a shelter in 2012 when she was just a puppy & her owners didn’t want her anymore.

No one noticed Vanessa until now. Ellie Mitchell a paramedic said she “stopped cold” when she saw a social post & photo from Villalobos Rescue Center with the caption “Overlooked for 11Years”.

“It made me sad to think that she’d lived her whole life without a family” said Mitchell a paramedic.

Tia Torres the shelter’s founder said “We have a lot of dogs, so Vanessa was one of many…We don’t know how she has been overlooked all these years, but it’s her time to shine now!”

A shelter worker will drive Vanessa a huge 18 hours to join Mitchell & her three other dogs in her new forever home, and Mitchell is so looking forward to her arrival.

“My dogs are my family, & after a stressful shift, I love to come home & watch them run around & dig holes while I relax on the patio,” Mitchell said.

“I’m looking forward to adding Vanessa to the bunch and spoiling her rotten.”

If you’re feeling dog parent feeding guilt, you’re not alone. A new survey reveals that excess weight gain in our pooches can be related to the emotions dog parents feel around feeding and treating.

Many dog parents of overweight pooches feel conflicted about what quality of life means to their fur babies. Of those surveyed:

• 75% feel guilty when their dogs appear hungry.

• 67% agree food is a primary source of their dog’s happiness.

• 67% agree they bond to their dog through feeding and don’t want to lose that bond.

But…

• 92% agree they are sad when their doggo can’t do the things they enjoyed when their weight was ideal and;

• 45% say their dog has less energy for playtime.

So what can you do? First is understanding how important balanced weight can be for extending a pooches healthy years & second is sourcing a pupper nutrition plan that works for you. A vet can help with this.
