Why does my dog keep sniffing my private bits?

A dogs nose is a sensory powerhouse, in fact a dog can have over 100 million scent receptors in their noses. That’s super snoot power so there are a few reasons they’re attracted to sniffing your crotch, like:

They’re greeting you: Some dogs will sniff your crotch just as a way of saying hello.

To gather information: Often, a dog sniffing you is sort of like a background check. A dog can gather a lot of information by smelling someone’s crotch, including their age, sex, and mood.

Their scent receptors: Because a dog has so many scent receptors, they have a much more sensitive sense of smell, which can cause them to be attracted to more sweaty areas of the body.

Their natural instinct: It’s instinctual in a dog to smell other mammals’ crotches and rectal areas, so by smelling yours, they’re just following their natural instincts.

If it’s giving you the ‘awkwards’🙄 here’s a few things you can do:

• Greet your pooch with an open hand or closed fist for them to sniff first

• Train your dog to sit when new guests visit or distract them with a treat

• You can teach your dog to “target” your fist as a way of stopping them smelling unwanted areas.

ICYMI - Crocs make stray doggo a buddy instead of breakfast

A stray pooch being chased by a pack of feral canines jumped into a crocodile infested river with three crocs floating nearby and within striking range, BUT they helped it to back to safety on the shore.

Researches said that the crocs, that can reach 18 feet long and 450 kg, “were actually touching the dog with their snouts and nudging it to move further for a safe ascent on the bank and eventually escape”
