😏OK..NOW WHAT? (your Q & A)
How do I know my dog needs sleep?

Our pups can get sleep-deprived like we can.💤

If you want to know how to tell if your dog needs some shut-eye, you’re not alone!

A simple yawn is only part of the story.

Just like us, dogs can get super tired, and it’s important to recognize the signs that they need rest.

Here are 10 key indicators that your pup might be ready to hit the snooze button.

  1. Mouthing: If your dog is nipping or mouthing more than usual, it could be a sign they’re over-tired & need a break.

  2. Restlessness: A dog that can’t settle down may actually be desperate for sleep, even if they seem full of energy.

  3. Attention Seeking: When your dog is constantly looking for your attention, it might be a sign they need to calm down & get some rest.

  4. Barking: Excessive barking can indicate that your dog is too tired to manage stress or excitement.

  5. Alertness: If your dog seems overly aware of their surroundings, it might mean they’re too tired to focus properly.

  6. Anxiety: Tired dogs can feel more anxious & overwhelmed, so watch for signs of stress.

  7. Over-excitement: If your dog’s excitement levels are through the roof, they may just need a nap to reset.

  8. Lack of Focus: A tired dog struggles to pay attention, so if they’re zoning out during training, it’s time for a nap.

  9. Reactive Behaviors: If your dog is reacting strongly to things around them, tiredness may be part of the problem.

  10. Sleeping: The simplest sign? If your dog is sleeping, let them rest! Dogs need their sleep just like we do.

Next time you notice any of these signs, consider giving your pup a cozy spot to relax (& maybe a snuggle🤗).

Why dogs fight & how to prevent & stop it.

Dog fights are a scary thing to be avoided.

🧐 Let’s sniff this out

Dog fights can be scary & dangerous, but understanding why they happen & knowing how to prevent them & break them up safely is important. Here’s a quick rundown.

Why Dogs Fight.

  • Resource Guarding: Dogs may fight over items they want to protect, like toys or food. It's their way of saying, "Back off!"

  • Fear: Sometimes, a dog feels threatened & reacts aggressively to scare off another dog. It’s all about self-defense.

  • Lack of Self-Control: If a dog hasn’t learned how to control its emotions, it might lash out when it feels frustrated or overwhelmed.

  • Environment: Such as dog parks, beaches or vacations where dogs are strangers & there is no hierarchy between them.

  • Body Language Signs: Look for signs like growling, the fur rising on their backs, not returning play or stiff bodies. If you notice these, it’s time to step in before things escalate.

Preventing a Dog Fight.

  • Use a Leash: Always keep your dog on a lead when walking, especially in areas where they may encounter unfamiliar dogs.

  • Skip Dog Parks: If your dog tends to be reactive, it might be best to avoid dog parks. Not all dog owners are attentive, and even calm dogs can get drawn into conflicts.

  • Learn Dog Body Language: Watch for signs that indicate a dog may feel threatened. If you notice these behaviors, quickly remove your dog to prevent a potential fight.

  • Feed Dogs Separately: To avoid possessiveness over food, feed your dogs in different areas of the house or at least on opposite sides of the room. Make sure to clean up their food bowls once they are done eating.

  • Manage Visiting Dogs: Keep valuable items out of reach & provide some individual space for each dog to reduce tension.

Stopping a Dog Fight.

  • Distract the Dogs: Use loud noises like clapping or banging pots to grab their attention.

  • Soak Them: Spray the dogs with a hose or splash them with water to break their focus.

  • Use a Barrier: If possible, use something like a baby gate or a large piece of wood to separate them without putting yourself in danger.

  • Physically Separate: As a last resort, you can use the wheelbarrow technique by lifting the back legs of each dog & moving them apart but they may try to bite.

  • Be Safe: Do not put yourself in harms way of their jaws or you may get bitten.

  • Check for Injuries: It is always to best to get a vet to check them over as a dog bite can cause dangerous bacteria infections to another dog.

With these tips in mind, you can help keep your pups safe & happy! Always stay alert and be ready to act when necessary.

🌍What is dog reverse sneezing, the causes & what to do?

So is this Choo Ahhh?😀

Have you ever heard your dog make a strange honking sound that seems a little alarming?

That’s called reverse sneezing! It happens when your pup quickly inhales through their nose, & it can sound pretty weird. While it might freak you out at first, don’t worry too much, it’s usually harmless.

Here are a few key points to help you understand this quirky behavior:

  • What is it? Reverse sneezing is when your dog pulls air rapidly into their nose, making a sound that can be mistaken for choking.

  • Why does it happen? This can occur due to excitement, allergies, or irritation in their throat or nasal passages.

  • What can you do? If your dog starts reverse sneezing, remain calm, gently tap their throat or cover their nostrils for a second to help them breathe normally again.

  • If you think it may be something more serious with their breathing immediately consult your vet.

So, the next time your pup starts making those funny sounds like it’s inhaling sneezes or snorting backwards, know that it’s usually nothing serious. Stay cool, give them a little love, and they’ll be back to their usual self in no time.

🤔PAWSE TO REMEMBER

Go social. Unless your dog is reactive, allow your pup supervised engagement with other dogs & people for social development & it’s good for their mental health.

🧐FACT or FLUFF??...Answer.  FLUFF
No, garlic is not a natural remedy for fleas & ticks. Garlic is toxic to dogs & a food dogs can’t eat & that needs to be kept away from dogs.
